THREE QUICK CHECKS:
I wanted to share with you basic checks that will help you discern whether the word you are receiving for yourself is from the Lord, the soul realm or the enemy.
1) A true word from God will always be compatible with God’s nature and character. His nature is goodness, kindness, gentleness, etc. As I have said earlier on the podcast, He sent Jesus to reconcile mankind and to draw us back into an intimate relationship with Himself. So words from Him will be compatible with His intention and nature.
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
The Holy Spirit is a spirit of peace and grace. He is never in a hurry, never panicked and His desire is always to honor the Lord and the person the Lord is trying to reach which in this case is you.
God is encouraging and knows that encouragement is a better motivator than condemnation. He wants you to work with Him not just for Him.
God also is not a God of confusion. So He is not going to give you confusing words that won’t help. He truly desires that we have the understanding we need to move forward in faith.
Remember that God, through Christ, is always trying to move His people past fear into an intimate relationship based on His perfect love.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)
2) A true word from God, even if it is a warning, will always have the goal of reconciliation not judgment adn will offer some sort of solution. Even if words of correction or warning are given, they will still be compatible with the nature and character of the Lord.
God is always after drawing people closer to himself, even in sin situations, that is why Jesus came - to reconcile us and our sinful lives back to God. He then left the continuing ministry of reconciliation to us, the church.
It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but canceling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor). (2 Cor. 5:18)
3) A true word from God will also come with some measure of confirmation. Many times – he will respond in ways that I mentioned before on the podcast as well as responding through other people – either they will come directly to you with a prophetic word , or a casual conversation in life, or a message that is preached, etc.
Remember God wants you to have the correct information and not be afraid so He seeks to confirm His word for your benefit.
